What third-party insurance covers

Under the Swedish Traffic Damage Act (1975:1410), third-party cover can pay for damage arising from traffic with the insured vehicle, including:

  • Injury to the driver of the insured vehicle
  • Injury to passengers in the insured vehicle
  • Injury to people outside the vehicle, such as pedestrians and cyclists
  • Damage to someone else's vehicle
  • Damage to other property outside the vehicle belonging to someone other than the policyholder or the driver

What is not included

  • Damage to your own vehicle (to protect your own car as well, you need partial or comprehensive cover)
  • Damage to property outside the vehicle belonging to you as policyholder or to the driver, unless the damage was caused by unlawful use of the vehicle
  • Damage to property carried in, on or with the vehicle, beyond personal belongings in connection with an injury
